A Canadian dance group has set an ancient dance form known as Bharata Natyam to the tune of Rihanna’s “Work.” Two distinct cultures are intertwined resulting in a genuine East-meets-West fusion of movement. The arrangement was done by Shobhit Banwait and DJ Dattabasse, who masterfully sample eastern percussive beats into the chart-topper for a unique remix treatment.

The choreography is flawlessly executed by Chance Constantino, who interweaves urban dances moves with traditional Indian Bharata Natyam, a form of classical dance originating in the temples of Tamil Nadu. Dating all the way back to 3rd century BCE, Bharata Natyam is a treatise on the performing arts and one of the most popular dance styles in the world. To this day it is widely practiced and now you can see it in action set to one of today’s hottest dance tracks.
