Following PRO MOTION‘s cocktail hour with Gloria Estefan, where the Latin artist shared stories of her childhood and rise to fame, PRO MOTION. The Brad LeBeau Company, Inc. recently invited the legendary Gloria Gaynor to speak with variety of dance music industry professionals!
Conducted via Zoom, the Disco icon attracted the attention of Billboard reporting club deejays, mix show radio programmers and remixers who watched and listened to the iconic 76 year old singer discuss her life, four decades in the music industry, two Grammy Awards, her cooking show, Amazon shop, upcoming documentary and, of course, the history of the 42 year old, #1 Billboard-charting “I Will Survive”.
What was initially released as the ‘B Side’ of a Polydor Records 45rpm vinyl in 1978 (with “Substitute” on the ‘A’ side until the DJ at Studio 54 flipped it over and played ” … Survive”) the Dino Fekaris / Freddie Perren penned and produced classic was an ode to the broken hearted by a former paramour.
Forty plus years since its original release the Disco classic has since become a worldwide anthem championed by women and the LGBTQ community alike as the iconic dance single receives the ultimate 2020 remix treatment.
Most recently, master production craftsman, Eric Kupper has given brand new life to the 1970’s original, courtesy of Universal Music, that highlights Gaynor’s classic lyrics, looped and echoed for a contemporary club culture twist. And while the original standard remains infectious in its own right, Kupper’s remixed edition will appeal to the song’s initial fans as well as attract a whole new audience.
