Post Malone is joining hundreds of other artists who are helping to raise money for those affected by COVID-19. Appealing to, both, contemporary and classic music lovers, the Texas native will be performing a tribute to Nirvana set today, Friday, April 24th at 3 PM PT/6 PM ET.
Streaming from the comfort and safety of his own home, the “Congratulations” singer will broadcast the exhibition via his official YouTube channel. According to a release, he’ll “perform a set of Nirvana hits and fan favorites.” and whether or not that means he’ll also be singing his own songs has yet to be determined. Regardless, it shouldn’t be a problem getting both artists’ fans to tune in as Post Malone and Nirvana have a combined 61 million listeners on Spotify and 23.1 million subscribers on YouTube.
Funds raised from the event will be directed to the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. Specifically, the fund aims to “ensure patients get the care they need and frontline workers get essential supplies and information; and to accelerate research and development of a vaccine and treatments for all who need them.” Google is also getting in on the action by matching all donations up to $5 million.
For more information, fans can text 817-270-6440 – a number that Malone personally offered up on his social media pages earlier this week alongside the note, “text me.” Check out the trailer for the performance here.
