Post Malone has released the violent music video for his hit song “Rockstar” featuring 21 Savage. The gory video features sword fighting, hazy visuals, Post Malone fighting off a group of people, and plenty of blood.
Considering the song is already an enormous commercial hit, it’s a weird and untimley that Post Malone and his director, Emil Nava, decided to go the Kill Bill route for the official visual. You might have expected a bottle-popping club scene, instead Post naturally samurai-slays a bunch of dudes. Savage is there too, but he doesn’t spill as much blood as Post does. The clip ends with both rappers covered in blood. Then, snow falls around Post Malone—an apparent homage to the classic 1973 film Lady Snowblood.
Earlier this month Post Malone said in an interview that hip-hop is not the genre he turns to when he’s looking to “think about life.” 21 Savage, meanwhile, wrote an open letter asking “OG rappers” to stop disrespecting the younger generation of artists coming through and the music that they’re making.
“Rockstar” is the current leader on the Billboard Hot 100. Watch the gory Emil Nava-directed clip below.
