Today (Oct. 24), Pharrell has shared a pair of new songs, “Runnin’” and “Surrender”.

Both tunes are taken from the original soundtrack for upcoming film Hidden Figures, which stars Janelle Monáe, Octavia Spencer, and Taraji P. Henson.

The forthcoming biopic tells the story of pioneering African American NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson.

Pharrell serves up a period correct juke box vibe on both “Runnin’” and the Lalah Hathaway duet “Surrender.”

“Sometime my mind dives deep/ When I’m runnin’/ I don’t want no free ride/ I’m just sick and tired of runnin’,” Pharrell sings over the brassy, piano-laden melody on “Runnin'”.

Pharrell came onboard as a producer on the biopic earlier this year, and headed up all the musical soundscape for the score as well.

This isn’t nearly the first time Skateboard P. has been brought out to contribute to a soundtrack. The Voice coach had a huge success with his song “Happy” for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.

Hidden Figures opens in US cinemas on December 25, check out the trailer below.
