Sanctioned by New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, the 2020 MTV VMAs will take place on August 30th, 2020 in New York City.

The 2020 VMAs will return to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for the first time since 2013, but will not be solely confined to that arena. As an ode to New York City resilience and in an effort to increase social distancing efforts, celebrations will be held throughout the five boroughs featuring performances beamed in from various iconic locations throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island.

An MTV spokesperson stated “We’re exploring with government officials, the medical community, and key stakeholders on how to safely hold the 2020 VMAs at Barclays Center” “The health of everyone involved remains our No. 1 priority. Additionally, we are working on several contingency plans to bring music’s biggest night to audiences everywhere.”

In addition to featuring the biggest names in music a variety of fresh faces have been nominated – including Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Ava Max, Finneas, Doja Cat – for last year’s musical works in their respective genres.
