For quite some time now fans of Missy Elliott have been starving for new music and the she’s finally delivered. As the legendary rapper gears up for a celebratory end to August, Elliott delivered her new Iconology album on Friday along with a music video for the new “Throw It Back.” single.

The Virginia native announced the full length on Thursday afternoon as simply a “collection of songs”, encouraging her fans to enjoy the fresh recordings: “Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa ‘Missy’ Elliott #ICONOLOGY.” She finished by thanking them in a nod to what’ll take place the VMAs: “This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me!”

Elliott will make on Monday (8.26) when she becomes the first female rapper to take home the Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday. Jennifer Lopez was given the same honor at the 2018 ceremony. Listen to her album below courtesy of Warner Music.
