Major Lazer became one of the first major U.S. acts to play in Cuba since the restoration of diplomatic ties between Washington and Havana. The first artist to do so since Audioslave in 2005, and only the second since 1962.
Yesterday, the electronic dancehall crew performed at a free concert in Havana at Tribuna José Martí in front of the U.S. Embassy. The fan captured footage shows frontman, Diplo proudly waving the Cuban flag on stage during cuts “Jah No Partial” and “Be Free.” Watch below.
The concert is a preview for the upcoming music festival Musicabana, which takes place from May 5-8. As part of the cultural exchange, Major Lazer is planning to meet with Cuban music students and perform alongside local musicians. Cuba could very well become an exciting new international tour destination for our favorite dance acts.
