Louis Tomlinson’s post-One Direction career is moving in a good direction with a string of solo releases including “Just Hold On” (with Steve Aoki), “Back To You” (featuring Bebe Rexha) and now “Miss You.”
The song was written with longtime 1D collaborator, Julian Bunetta, and produced by Afterhrs. It takes us through a period when Tomlinson lost time by partying his nights away instead of chasing a girl. “I wrote this song about a time in my life when I was going out partying every night. In hindsight throughout that time I was pretty numb and just going through the motions,” Tomlinson explained.
Deep down,” he added, “it was always in the back of my mind that what I really missed was the girl that I loved. It was important for me to write something really honest.”
That feeling really comes out in the song as he’s singing directly to the girl he neglected. While it is a rock song and is a little more rough than we are accustomed to hearing from a former One Direction member, the pain and strong emotions are conveyed well due to the choice of genre.
