Khalid‘s rise to fame has been undeniably impressive seeing that within a year of releasing his first single “Location” in 2016, his debut album American Teen entered the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and he received five Grammy nominations.

After collaborating with the likes of Billie EilishLogic and Marshmello, the Georgia native dropped his second full-length, RCA Records-released Free Spirit, in April and announced a 32-date arena tour of the same name. During the trek this week, he had some special words for the attendees at the Staples Center that they would hopefully take out of the event.

Khalid began the show in Los Angeles with some inspiration, playing a recording encouraging audience members that “Free spirit is a dream you can accomplish.” As ethereal music flooded the arena, he walked out to thunderous applause and began the song he had spoke about. After performing a number of his recently-released recordings, he finished off his set with a cover of Oasis’ 1995 anthem “Wonderwall.” See some of the show’s highlights below.
