Justin Timberlake‘s announcement of his new album “Man Of The Woods” conjured ideas of a rugged Timberlake singing about living off the land, but with the release of his first single, “Filthy,” that rugged look seems to not be happening.
Timberlake co-wrote “Filthy” with Timbaland, Danja, James Fauntleroy and Lawrence Dopson; Timberlake, Timbaland and Danja co-produced the track, which the singer on Instagram instructed to “[play] very loud.” Watch Justin Timberlake go “Steve Jobs” rather than rugged in “Filthy” here.
The album’s first single, which dropped Thursday night, isn’t some country song about the simple joys of chopping wood and eating only what he kills. Instead, “Filthy” is a slinky, electro-R&B jam that fans of classic Timberlake tracks such as “Rock Your Body” and “SexyBack” will love. And the video, directed by Mark Romanek, is as far away from nature as you can possibly get.
Timberlake is set to release one new song with an accompanying video every week until the album’s release date on February 2nd. It seems like a tall order for any team of artists but if anyone is to do it, it’s JT.
