With more than a decade of music under her belt, the 32-year-old Janelle Monae has made a career out of being an artistic chameleon, but now is her time to shine as herself, and she has done exactly that with Dirty Computer, which launched today.
The 14-track collection takes the listener through a maze of genres including pop, hip hop, R&B and trap. The sheer amount of feelings she produces with those genres is a testament to Monae’s taste in music and her ability to turn ideas into an eclectic album.
The collaborations with Zoe Kravitz, Pharrell Williams and Grimes also speak to the wide range of talent that came together to produce this album. Not to forget though, that Prince did have a hand in Dirty Computer, and it was one of the last projects he worked on before he tragically passed.
The album was released simultaneously with a visual album, and trust us when we say it is VISUAL. There’s so much packed into it that you’ll just have to watch it yourself:
