Just after midnight L.A. time last night, Instagram users received such error messages as “Couldn’t refresh feed” and “We’re sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again” on the app while the online version of the photo- and video-sharing networking service showed the message “5xx Server Error.”
Users quickly took to Twitter, using the hashtag “#instagramdown” which inevitably started trending. About an hour after the outage, the social media app was back up and ready for people to view pictures of their favorite artists, clothing, Kardashians and musicians. So far, there is no clear reason why the app went down.
Co-founders of Instagram Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger recently resigned amid reported clashes with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, catching Wall Street by surprise. Facebook veteran Adam Mosseri on Monday was named the new head of Instagram. Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion.
