If you’ve ever wondered why a lot of The Chainsmokers‘ songs sound the same, here is the answer.
The Grammy-winning EDM/Bro-pop duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall has been been under the microscope lately due to their questionable interview answers, as well as the striking similarity between most of their songs.
To address the similarity of the songs, a YouTuber named John Fassold has taken it upon himself to show what’s up.
The jazz pianist originally recorded a series of Snapchats, which he then put together in one video so that the internet could be educated at large. The video points out a lot of commonalities such as the use of the same three-chord progression in many Chainsmoker songs, as well as the arbitrary quality of some of the lyrics.
In defense of the Chainsmokers, pop music at large tends to use the same catchy chord progressions in order to create hit tracks. Though the problem with the duo’s production is that they are so blatantly doing the same thing over and over again.
As I see it, it’s only a matter of time before people get tired of their overused lyrical themes and recycled chords.
