Two of the greatest R&B divas of all time, Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle, combined talents during the most recent episode of Verzuz, letting their fans witness their legendary vocal skillz while letting them in on a host of interesting, behind the scenes stories.
To the delight of over half a million fans watching over Instagram Live and Apple Music, the two iconic soulsters, personalities and hitmakers whose careers stretch back to the early ’60s, got together for the most generation-spanning Verzuz yet. “We are so happy to be together,” LaBelle said. “We’ve been together for many, many, many years.”
The two Platinum-selling recording artists recounted their decades-long history together, sharing memories of the ways their careers have intersected over the years while expressing mutual affection for each other’s musical artistry, and telling stories about their respective families and their famous culinary creations.
After each songstress belted their respective hits – including “Midnight Train To Georgia”, “All Right Now,” “Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me,” “Stir It Up” and “Every Beat of My Heart,” – when it came time to choose a victor, the audience had a hard time crowning a winner, ending the fun competition in a draw. And to cap off what was already an extraordinary evening of artistic history, the women wrapped the online show with a surprise appearance by their musical contemporary and friend, singer Dionne Warwick.
