Frank Ocean is hosting a throwback Thursday club night in New York that will imagine a time before effective HIV/AIDS prevention was available.
To clarify, according to Gayletter, the Blonded-brand party will be called PrEP+, and is described as an “homage to what could have been of the 1980s’ NYC club scene if the drug PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) — which can be taken daily to prevent HIV/AIDS for those who are not infected but are at high risk — had been invented in that era.”
The first in what promises to be a series of themed nights is being hyped as an ongoing safe space meant to bring people together to dance to music from “globally celebrated DJs,” beginning with tonight’s (October 17th) kick-off event. Furthermore, no photos or videos are allowed at the event, where the rules include mandatory consent and no racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, or any other form of discrimination – concepts that have been in place at previous events throughout club culture as of lately.
This is right on-brand for Ocean as he has admitted to being “interested in club, and many different iterations of nightlife for music and songs,” in his recent creations. Ticket links have been distributed and a venue will be announced shortly. Stay tuned and check out the official PrEP+ poster below.
