Recorded by Prince and The Revolution from the album Purple Rain, “Let’s Go Crazy” was the opening track on both the LP and the film Purple Rain.  Upon release in 1984 the song became Prince’s second #1 American hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the magazine’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songsand Hot Dance Club Play charts and became a Top 10 UK single.

The extended “Special Dance Mix” of the song was performed in a slightly edited version in the film Purple Rain. It contains a longer instrumental section in the middle, including a solo on an apparently out-of-tune piano and some muddled lyrics, repeating the track’s introduction.

33 years ago last week, the Purple Rain full length started a 24-week run atop Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart
