Written and recorded by American R&B band Chic (from their third album Risqué in 1979), “Good Times” was the #1 American pop single 38 years ago today, ranked #229 on Rolling Stones list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and has become one of the most sampled tunes in music history.

In August of 1979, “Good Times” became the band’s second #1 single on Billboard Magazine’s pop and soul chart. Along with “My Forbidden Lover” and “My Feet Keep Dancing,” “Good Times” also reached #3 on the disco chart. Selling more than 5,000,000 copies at the time,  this is the best-selling 45 rpm single in the history of Atlantic Records.
