As the overwhelming majority of music venues remaining closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with few to no ways to ensure proper social distancing, one company is aiming to create the first event space geared directly toward keeping small groups apart from one another.
Newcastle Racecourse in Gosforth Park is poised to be the United Kingdom‘s first socially distanced music venue and will reportedly open this August in Newcastle, England. The organizers behind the transformation of Newcastle Racecourse into a guideline-abiding music space include the coordinators of This Is Tomorrow Festival, SSD Concerts, and Virgin Money. These teams have arranged for 500 individual viewing areas on raised platforms, each separated by six feet of space, for individuals and small groups. In all, Virgin Money Unity Arena is expected to accommodate a maximum of 2,500 attendees while also offering food, drinks, and restrooms.
As for who’s scheduled to perform, it was just announced that DJ Craig Charles, Two Door Cinema Club, Comedians Jason Manford and Bill Bailey and others will entertain audiences in the upcoming months. “We are excited to bring this innovative music event to the public for what we believe will be the best live experience this summer” said Helen Page, group brand and marketing director at Virgin Money.
