Fergie delivered a unique experience last night when she raised some eyebrows with her take on the National Anthem.

The Black Eyed Peas singer’s slow, bluesy rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” wasn’t particularly well received at the Staples Center or on social media before the 67th edition of the NBA‘s annual showcase.

Although Fergie was on pitch throughout her 2 1/2 minute rendition of the song, her tempo, musical accompaniment and sexy delivery were not exactly typical for a sporting event or a patriotic song.

While her version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” has not been received well immediately, remember that Marvin Gaye’s touching rhythm-and-blues version at the 1983 game was initially criticized, but has since gained widespread acceptance as a groundbreaking musical performance.
