On Sunday, September 13th, the LGBTQ civil rights organization Equality California will honor Laverne Cox via virtual celebration.

The actress and advocate, along with Sam Feder and Amy Scholder will receive the Equality Visibility award for their work on the Netflix documentary Disclosure, the recently-released film that offers “an unprecedented, eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender.”

In parallel ceremonies Pete and Chasten Buttigieg will receive the equality trailblazer nod at the Golden State Equality Awards along with Norman Lear – the 98-year-old TV pioneer responsible for culture-shifting shows All In the Family and The Jeffersons – who will receive the Ally Leadership award to be presented by friends and fellow legends Gloria Estefan and Rita Moreno.

This years awards ceremony will also feature musical performances by Melissa Etheridge, Betty Who, Alex Newell, and Shea Diamond all of which is available via private stream at 6 PM PT on Sept 13th with tickets available here.
