When you think of the “greatest rapper of all time” images of the late Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. come to mind along with the newer and longer-lasting artists like Jay-Z, Kanye, Nas, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Drake.

Well we have an officially voted GOAT and it is Slim Shady, aka Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem.

According to Ranker, the best of the best is none other than Marshall Mathers. They say: “Numerous different skills and attributes all must come together to make a truly legendary MC. Obviously, a rapper must display a sense of rhythm and an ability to compliment the beat in unpredictable and exciting ways. A gift for lyricism and vocabulary is similarly essential – you can have the flow of the century, but if the words don’t come together to tell a compelling story or present a unique point of view, it’s still not going to translate into a great hip-hop song. But of course there’s also an intangible element that elevates some rappers into the ranks of the greatest of all time.”

Due to their philosophy, it’s obvious that they know what they’re talking about which inevitably rules out many of the new age rappers who only mumble about sipping lean and popping Xanax.

After hearing the news about Eminem topping the chart, many people took to Twitter to challenge the decision, saying Tupac and the like were far better, although it is important to take into account all of Em’s accomplishments including over 170 million albums sold, having the biggest vocabulary of any artist ever etc. He even mentioned in his song “Rap God” that “I’m a product of Rakim , Lakim Shabazz, 2Pac, N.W.A, Cube hey Doc, Ren Yella, Eazy…” which was an acknowledgement of his predecessors who contributed to who he is as an artist.

He’s also no stranger to dissing The System as his Trump diss freestyle shows.

Like it or not, even though he isn’t the most old school rapper, he came from nothing and made it big with the skills he acquired over years of practice and study. It would be wrong not to even acknowledge that Eminem could be the number one rapper. And with that, he still currently sits atop the list.
