Last night’s Billboard Music Awards was an event for the history books as it garnered broken records, saw artists cemented in history, and allowed musicians to perform their latest and greatest songs.

One of the biggest stories of the night came after Mariah Carey was given the Icon Award, introduced by Jennifer Hudson who said, “She’s a trailblazing hit maker, an instantly recognizable voice and she is truly one of a kind.” Following a video featuring the 49-year-old’s best moments as a performer, songwriter and producer, she took the opportunity to exhibit a medley of her greatest hits including “Always Be My Baby,” “Hero” and “We Belong Together.”

Other performances included a fresh but steamy rendition of Madonna and Maluma‘s “Medellin,” which the Grammy winner had been practicing for months in order to get 100% perfect. Taylor Swift also took to the stage for a bright showcase of her days-old collaboration “ME!” with Panic! At The Disco‘s Brendon Urie that saw the two singing in their pastel paradise accompanied by a Beyonce-esque drum line. Watch the show below.

Drake made history by becoming the top award recipient in BBMA history with 12 trophies in one night, bringing his lifetime total to 27, surpassing Taylor Swift’s 23. In addition, Florida Georgia Line became the first three-time winner for top country song. The duo won for “Meant to Be,” its record-breaking collaboration with Bebe Rexha as well as in 2014 for “Cruise” (featuring Nelly) and in 2017 for “H.O.L.Y.
