Fans of the Tron franchise and Daft Punk will be pleased to learn that Disney has officially confirmed a third installment of the movie series. The news comes ten years after the series’ sequel, Tron: Legacy and 38 years following the film franchise’s debut release.
After a planned Tron television series helmed by John Ridley set to stream on Disney+ was scrapped, and details about the upcoming and newly-revealed project being scarce, sources report that the forthcoming futuristic film is likely to lean more toward sequel territory than a reboot. While Jared Leto is also rumored to star in the new film, whether Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and the rest of the cast will reprise their roles remains to be seen.
On the music side, fans remain hopeful that Daft Punk will reprise their creative role of the Tron: Legacy score. Though their involvement is not yet confirmed listeners and viewers alike would be thrilled if the French pioneers flex their production muscles again and inject the same energy and inimitable sonics that brought the 2010 film to life. Stay tuned for updates on this story and check out some teasers below.
