You need to have enough heart and voice to successfully cover a Sam Smith song, and it seems like Demi Lovato has both. She has the multi-octave range but also the grasp of emotional nuance that goes light years beyond any old karaoke singer.

Lovato sang Smith’s “Too Good at Goodbyes” on BBC Radio 1 as part of their Live Lounge series on Sunday. She needed a lyric sheet to help her with the words, but the notes were not an issue. Following the song, she dove into her own hit “Sorry Not Sorry” before throwing it way back to 2011 for “Skyscraper.”

Sam Smith expressed how amazing the cover was, which sparked fan conversation over a possible collab between the two.
