A new Coldplay remix package might just be your new “Hymn for the Weekend.”
Grammy award-winning rock band Coldplay has released the official Coldplay remix package of their chart-topping hit “Hymn for the Weekend,” a single off the group’s latest album A Head Full of Dreams and features none other than pop megastar Beyoncé herself. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, lead singer Chris Martin recalls that the uplifting track was originally conceived as a party song, with the original lyrics being “drinks on me;” however, it was met with much resistance from the rest of the band.
“I thought I’d like to have a song called ‘Drinks on Me’ where you sit on the side of a club and buy everyone drinks because you’re so fucking cool. I was chuckling about that, when this melody came, ‘drinks on me, drinks on me,’ then the rest of the song came out. I presented it to the rest of the band and they said, ‘We love this song, but there’s no way you can sing ‘drinks on me.’ So that changed into ‘drink from me’ and the idea of having an angelic person in your life. Then that turned into asking Beyoncé to sing on it.”
While still going strong on their A Head Full of Dreams Tour, Coldplay’s “Hymn for the Weekend” has charted to the No. 5* position on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart with the assist of mixes from Cosmic Dawn, Lamberjack, and Ray Rhodes. The official Coldplay remix package includes a rendition from Miami DJ/producer Joe Maz featuring his signature synth heavy stylings and Seeb’s trop house remix that will set the mood for a righteous weekend.
