Nobody likes it when one of their favorite artist cancels a show, but what’s even worse is when fans try to shame them for allegedly lying about health-related causes. This recently happened to DJ/producer Charlotte de Witte.
This past weekend, the Techno phenom was forced to cancel a show on Saturday at SWG3 in Glasgow, Scotland “due to health circumstances.” by explaining “I’m absolutely gutted that I can’t be with you tonight. I’d been looking forward to this show so much!… My representatives and SWG3 found a new date on 28th February 2020. It would mean the world to me to see you then. I sincerely apologise for letting you down tonight..”
Already having scheduled a new show to take the place of the canceled event would usually be enough to make it up to excited fans – and it was for many – but some decided to try and call her out for lying.
The controversy started when de Witte posted a photo of her in Russia, leading some to believe that she was indeed traveling rather than staying faithful to her tour schedule. In reality, the 27-year-old had played a show in Moscow on the 22nd (when she took the picture), informed fans she couldn’t perform in Glasgow that night on the 23rd, and posted the photo in question on the 24th.
The backlash against the post was severe enough to prompt de Witte to address the few misinformed people, stating: “For those of you commenting on the previous picture, it was taken two days ago. I was unwell yesterday, unable to make it to the show in Glasgow, and still am absolutely exhausted. I have been giving you my all for a long time now. Your comments are very hard. I don’t “just” cancel. I’m a human being. Not a robot.”
