Grammy award-winning singer Chaka Khan announced today that she’s entering rehab. Khan will be receiving treatment in order to quell her addiction to fentanyl, the same painkiller that killed music legend Prince. The 63-year-old R&B star has already cancelled her upcoming performances for this month in order to enter an “intensive rehabilitation and aftercare program” while her performances in August are still scheduled as usual.
“Chaka has struggled with a dependence on prescription pain medications and has voluntarily entered the program to get healthy and stay that way,” says a message on her official website. “Doctors have urged her to resume recording mid-July and commence all performances beginning August 1st and onward.”
“It’s vital that I put my health and well-being first,” Khan told the Associated Press. “I know that I am disappointing some of my fans, but I also know they would want me to recover and be well and healthy.”
You can catch Chaka Khan post-treatment starting August where she’s scheduled to perform in cities across the US. Find out more on her official website and be sure to see if she’s coming to a town near you.
