The unveiling of the blockbuster movie Captain Marvel spurred big gains for the classic hit songs that are featured in the film, according to initial reports.
Combined, the 13 pop, rock and rap tunes included in the production collected a 464 percent jump in sales overall throughout the U.S. in the four days ending March 10th (the release, starring Brie Larson in the title role, began preview screenings on the evening of the 7th).
Some of the biggest gainers included “Celebrity Skin” as the largest-selling song from the film in the tracking span, which jumped 2,222% in addition to Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” (up 371 percent), No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” (up 720 percent) and Garbage’s “Only Happy When It Rains” (up 1,351 percent). In terms of on-demand streams (audio and video combined), the 13 recordings also enjoyed a notable bump. Collectively, they tallied a 43 percent gain, rising to 4.09 million streams from March 7-10 as compared to 2.85 million in the four preceding days.
This movie is not only a big deal in terms of the boost it has given to music, but it also carries the first female lead ever in a Marvel film. The character will make an appearance in the upcoming Endgame film which is due out April 26th.
