Flexing their muscles for one more push, Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man have reached the summit of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart at #1* with their deep collaboration “Giant.” The Columbia Records-released track follows the Grammy winning artist’s 2018 chart toppers “One Kiss” with Dua Lipa as well as the Sam Smith-featuring “Promises.”
Since its unveiling, the original recording which already lit up dance floors has received solid support from the club culture community with remixes conducted by fellow world-renowned creators Robin Schulz, Audien, Purple Disco Machine and Laid Back Luke. With each DJ/producer’s individual spins, audiences are treated to different compositional additions and subtractions that create tailor-made versions of “Giant” for any occasion that still keep the initial message intact.
Rag’n’Bone Man’s lyrical content, “I understood loneliness/Before I knew what it was/I saw the pills on the table/For your unrequited love…. I am a giant/Stand up on my shoulders, tell me what you see/’Cause I am a giant/We’ll be breaking boulders, underneath our feet,” is portrayed in the Emil Nava-directed visual which sees a young man facing the hardships of supporting his ailing mother. The protagonist eventually finds freedom and solace in music and nature while the song’s performers stand as omniscient characters among the natural landscape.
