This is what happens when a collaboration goes beyond just the music.
In 2016, Steve Aoki released a remix of blink-182‘s “Bored To Death” and ever since then, the group has kept in touch. On Tuesday night (November 28th) the pop-punk rock trio returned the favor to Aoki by playing a stripped-back acoustic set for his 40th birthday in Ron Burkle’s Green Acres Estate living room.
In the video, you can see the band surrounded by friends and family-alike as they performed an unplugged version of their 1999 hit “What’s My Age Again?” Singer Mark Hoppus changed the chorus from “Nobody likes you when you’re 23” to “Nobody likes you when you’re 40, Steve,” which garnered many laughs. Among the 100 guests were Tara Reid, Fred Durst, Akon, artist Ron English, Kaskade and Aoki’s family members including his mom and model nieces Olivia and Natalie.

The birthday bash doubled as a fundraiser for Aoki’s foundation, which ended up raising $500,000 for brain science and research. During the auction, guests bid in $25,000 increments, and Aoki kicked things off by throwing in $50,000 of his own cash.
