To celebrate the 50th anniversary of his artistic partnership with songwriter Bernie Taupin, Elton John teamed up with YouTube to hold a contest to create official videos for “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” and “Benny and the Jets.” And who better to capture the golden sound of John than the TODAY show staff.

To say the very least, anchors Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Carson Daly and Tamron Hall flawlessly pulled off retro chic ’70s looks for their video re-creation. Watch the crew donned in wigs, aviator shades, and bell bottoms below.

If you think you can do a better job than the TODAY show, you can make your own video for “Bennie and the Jets”, “Rocket Man”, or “Tiny Dancer” and upload it to their site. Or, you can be like the rest of us who just want to bask in the beauty of Matt Lauer with hair.
