Moving up her schedule and delivering as promised, Ariana Grande released her newest single and music video for the empowering “God is a woman.”

The song, a captivating R&B track taken to the next level by Grande’s vocals, features powerful lyrics such as “And I, I feel it after midnight/A feeling that you can’t fight/My one, it lingers when we’re done/You’ll believe God is a woman.”

Towards the end of the song, there is a speech. Originally given by Samuel L. Jackson in the 1994 film “Pulp Fiction“, it is recited by Madonna saying, “I will strike down upon thee, with great vengeance and furious anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my sisters, and you will know my name is the lord, when I lay my vengeance upon you.” Madonna’s appearance confirms that the two were working together on her upcoming album.

Perfectly complementing the song, the video, directed by Dave Meyers, captures the intertwining of sexuality and spirituality starting with Ariana wading through a bath of paint with only the pigments to cover her and leads to a culmination of Grande wearing a crown posing in Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam.

“God is a woman” is just one of the singles on Ariana’s album Sweetener dropping August 17th via Republic Records.
