Last November, Aretha Franklin gave her final public performance at Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation gala. She sang her 1968 classic, “I Say a Little Prayer.”

The “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” singer posted about the event, reminiscing back on the moment via Instagram, “She was obviously unwell, and I wasn’t sure she could perform. But Aretha did and she raised the roof. She sang and played magnificently, and we all wept. We were witnessing the greatest soul artist of all time.”

John made the post on Thursday when the Queen of Soul tragically passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Watch the performance here.
