Hot off the heels of hosting Music’s Biggest Night, Alicia Keys quietly released a new single, titled “Raise a Man.” The six-minute audio track was uploaded to her YouTube channel Sunday, following the 61st Grammy Awards broadcast.
The beautifully melodic song is piano-driven and features Keys harmonizing about the difficulties of relationships. Through the highs and lows, the 15-time Grammy winner sings about a dependent partner and the struggle for acceptance. The 38-year-old songstress gets deep on a verse, singing, “How am I supposed to pretend that I don’t want you the way that I do/ ‘Cause every time you’re around me, I feel virgin all again/ And every time you’re all around me, how can I renege, boy I just need your hand.” The whole performance is tied together by the addition of a violin.
This is Keys’ first single in more than three years, and for those thinking, there is no official word yet if it is a stand-alone recording or if It will be included on a new album. Listen to “Raise a Man” courtesy of RCA records, below.
