Last night’s episode of Jeopardy set the internet on fire after Alex Trebek made fun of one contestant’s music preference, a librarian named Susan Cole, who has an affinity for ‘nerdcore’ hip hop.

“Your favorite type of music is something I’ve never heard of but it doesn’t sound like fun,” the television host remarked.
“I think it’s very fun,” Cole replies. “It’s called nerdcore hip hop. It’s people who identify as nerdy, rapping about the things they love–video games, science fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. It’s really catchy and fun.”
And Trebek’s comeback? “Losers, in other words.”
“Sure,” she laughs, after a few seconds.
“I’m just teasing you,” he said lightly.
But Susan Cole was anything but a loser last night, having beat out her competition and winning $22,600. While Cole was a good sport and laughed it off, fans of the show (and nerdcore) were not amused.

I remember when Alex Trebek liked his job and was nice to the contestants. Now he hates everyone, poor guy.

Imagine finally passing the Jeopardy test and becoming a contestant and showing up and then Trebek’s all like “LOOK AT THIS LOSER.”

Alex Trebek is 76 years old. He’s never been, what you call, “cool”.
Think of how many people have heard about Nerdcore now. THAT’s cool.
