Adele paid tribute to late singer Amy Winehouse this morning by tweeting a picture of the singer. Today marks the day the “Rehab” singer would have turned 33 years old, and who better to honor this day than the queen herself?

In an interview with Rolling Stone Adele revealed that her fellow Brit’s struggle with substance abuse served as a reminder to herself. Watching Winehouse go down that road gave her a wakeup call of sorts.

“Watching Amy deteriorate is one of the reasons I’m a bit frightened,” she says. “I was f—— sad about it, but if someone showed me a picture of her looking bad, I’d look at it. If we hadn’t looked, then they’d have stopped taking her picture. That level of attention is really frightening, especially if you don’t live around all that showbiz stuff.”

While Adele can be known for her no-filter approach and whacky stage antics, she seems to be taking a more solemn approach in remembering the late soul diva. Her minimalist tweet has generated over 37,000 likes and 18,000 shares since 11 AM this morning.

Additionally, the “Hello” singer told Vice’s i-D Magazine that Winehouse was the huge inspiration behind her own career. The story makes sense given both performers modernized a throwback Soul-infused genre and turned it into an instantly classic sound.

“If it wasn’t for Amy and [her 2003 debut album] Frank, 100% I wouldn’t have picked up a guitar. I wouldn’t have written Daydreamer or Hometown, and I wrote ‘Someone Like You’ on the guitar too.”
