10-year old drummer Johanne Astrid Poulsen just won Denmark’s Got Talent, and did it with amazing covers of Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing In The Name” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” (two of my favorite tracks from those bands).
Poulsen played her audition in the form of a medley, playing short parts of well-known rock songs. Though her opening performance was good, her semi-final rendition of “Whole Lotta Love” took the cake and truly showcased her skills on the cymbals and toms which are far beyond those of some drummers twice her age.
The talent show winner received 250,000 Danish kroner (about $35,666.39) and when asked about what her future holds, she replied: “I hope I will get to play a lot of other places or get in a real band. I have not really thought about it, but I just know I have to play drums when I grow up.”
The 10-year old definitely has a lot of time to figure out what she wants to do and will have many opportunities to explore her options. Through the next few years, I hope she sticks with drumming to become the next icon drummer.
